Story of her life

Lai and I have decided to do a story-telling relay. Just some experimentation to see where it takes us. Each piece should be about a 100 words. No other rules except for the criteria that it must connect to the previous piece and must make sense.

So here goes:

She opened her eyes to the waltzing sunlight filtered by the billowing silk blinds. Reluctantly, she slid out of bed, tiredness clinging to her like a second skin. She shook it off.

Gingerly, she side-stepped the books haphazardly strewn over the parquet floor and got ready to face the day with an air of resignation.

The inevitable has arrived today.

She gulped down her perfunctory cup of milo before grabbing her notebook carrier, which doubles as her handbag, on her way out of the front door. Thoughts rushing through her mind like a bullet train on a circular track, hurried and pointless, throughout the entire journey to the office.
