Babies & Me Part 2

If you thought that i was unlucky on my first 3 days on the birthing suite. Wait till you hear about this.

On thurs, after my work at trinity. I went back to the birthing suite to pull an all nighter since it's common knowledge that women tend to give birth in the wee hours of the morning.

When i got there, there was 1 lady on that ward. 1. To make things worse, that 1 lady had already delivered before i arrived. Great.

So i hang around hopefully, wishing that more people would get contractions and get admitted. 1 hr later, someone finally came in. Unfortunately she's a primigravida and after we assessed her, she wasn't even in labour yet!

So i was prepared to go home when we received a phone call about a lady who was in labour, distressed and on her way to the hospital. Finally! Some action around here at last!

7 hours later, she still hadn't arrived. I spent the night waiting for 1 lady who wasn't even contracting hard enough to cause her discomfort and another who didn't show up.

All the midwifes told us how rare it was that they had the pleasure to enjoy such a peaceful night. If some mathematician were to calculate the odds of me doing an overnight shift on a perfectly quiet evening in a tertiary metropolitan teaching hospital, s/he would tell me that i have one of the worst luck ever.

Give me caesars anytime. Lots of action with scalpels, suction, manual pulling of the abdo wall and an unpleasantly surprised baby, all done within 45mins. Thankfully, i got to scrub in on 3 that morning. WooHOo!!! And that concluded my 15 hour shift on a friday afternoon.
